Dan Anthony Visits Schools @LlyfrDaFabBooks - 23 March 2016

Popular children’s author Dan Anthony recently visited six locations in north Wales as part of an @LlyfrDaFabBooks Author Tour organised by the Welsh Books Council. On Thursday, Dan had the company of Ken Skates, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sport and Tourism to launch the 2016 Children and Young Adults Books Catalogue, and to promote the Reading Lists created especially for World Book Day. Dan Anthony, who is well known for the Steve’s Dreams series which includes his new book Steve and the Sining Pirates, and The Rugby Zombie trilogy, visited Bryn Tabor, Bodhyfryd, Madras and Maes y Mynydd schools. His journey continued to both Llangollen and Ruthin libraries. ‘The children enjoyed listening to Dan Anthony presenting his work and trying their hand at creative writing,’ said Sharon Owen from the Books Council, who organised the tour. She added: ‘They were delighted with the visits and it was great to experience the enthusiasm of the pupils towards reading, and to see them enjoy playing with words as they wrote a paragraph of a story. Their imagination was boundless.’ There was also an opportunity to promote the Reading Lists on specific themes (the Roald Dahl Centenary; Sport; Travelling), by emphasising their value as a resource which is able to support teachers in their lessons and in encouraging their pupils to read for pleasure. Following on from the success of the Author Tour, as well as the Author Show in Cardigan castle and the recently held Author Tour event with Meleri Wyn James, the Welsh Books Council will now organise another tour in April in the Caernarfon area, which will hopefully encourage more children to pick up a book and enjoy reading.
