Tic Toc - Sunday night is story night for young children on BBC Radio Cymru - 26 February 2015

Stori Tic Toc is an exciting new project between Radio Cymru, S4C and the Boom Cymru production company, and will give children an opportunity to hear more about some of their favourite lovable characters from S4C’s service for pre-school children, Cyw, such as the pirate Ben Dant and Dona Direidi, as well as tales about new fictional characters.

The readings will be presented at 7pm every Sunday from 1 March by some familiar voices - such as Einir Dafydd and Gareth Delve, two of the S4C Cyw presenters, and actor Aeron Pughe, who plays the character Ben Dant - along with several new voices.

A variety of new and established authors will write the stories, and among the tales listeners will be able to enjoy over the first few weeks will be Ben Dant a Benji (Ben Dant and Benji) by Casia Wiliam, Eisteddfod y Pysgod (The Fishes’ Eisteddfod) by Rhys Parry Jones and Ela a’r Afr (Ela and the Goat) by Anna Lisa Jennaer.

The project is one of the ways Radio Cymru will be marking the centenary of the birth of one of Wales’ most popular and productive children's authors, T. Llew Jones, this year. Over time, the weekly stories will offer an extensive selection of popular, simple readings that will give children an opportunity to listen and immerse themselves in a magical story world at a regular and familiar time each week.

It will be possible to listen to the stories on the Radio Cymru website after the broadcasts, and they will also be available free to download as podcasts - giving children and parents easy access to the stories they enjoy most whenever they want to listen to them. In time, the series will aim to provide a wealth of new audio material in Welsh for the youngest children.

A book featuring a number of Stori Tic Toc stories is also planned for publication before the end of the year.
