John Harrison spoke about his explorations of far-flung places - from South America to Antarctica - alongside readings from performance poet Ifor Thomas and novelist and poet, Deborah Kay Davies. Harrison’s travel book Cloud Road, which follows him on a five month trek of the Andes, earned him the Book of the Year and his previous writing, including Where The Earth Ends, received the prestigious Alexander Cordell Travel Writing prize.
Ifor Thomas’ collection Body Beautiful was shortlisted for the Wales Book of the Year in 2005. He has also won the John Tripp Award for Spoken Poetry and has a new collection, Stalking Paloma, coming out this month.
Deborah Kay Davies, who won the Wales Book of the Year in 2009 for her short stories Grace, Tamar and Laszlo the Beautiful, has recently been named one of the Guardian’s ‘12 Best New Novelists’ as well as publishing a new critically acclaimed book, True Things About Me (Canongate), with the Independent describing her writing as "glinting with pitch-black humour".
