The awards – a partnership between the Western Mail and the Institute of Welsh Affairs – recognise the contribution of those in the fields of business, education, science and technology, arts and media, the environment and sport. They also aim to mark the work of young achievers, those who promote Wales to the world and the Welsh language in the workplace, as well as champions of citizenship.

The Arts, Media & Creative Industries category seeks to celebrate an outstanding contribution by an individual to the enhancement of Wales’s reputation in the arts, media or creative industries. The category embraces all art forms, including design and architecture, whether publicly funded or commercial; and in all media, including print, radio, television or the internet.

Richard Lewis Davies, a founding member of the Independent Publisher Parthian and Publishing Director for its Library of Wales series, has had a profound impact in bringing classic Welsh writing to an English audience. In his role, he has brought work by Welsh authors to UK and International audiences – translating texts into nine languages as part of Parthian’s 200-print book catalogue and transforming the company into a leader in English-language Welsh literature.

The Cardigan-based writer has also made a success of the Library of Wales series, bringing Welsh classics to a modern English-language audience. He has admirably combined this with an award-winning parallel career as a creative writer – publishing literary essays and novels such as Work, Sex and Rugby, which went on to win a World Book Day Award for Wales – and writing for Welsh theatre.

Richard Davies said of his success in the IWA Inspiration Awards:  "The IWA is all about contributing to a culture of critical debate about Wales’ past, present and future. I'm delighted to be on the list."

Matt Wordley, Chief Operating Officer of Orchard who are sponsoring the award, said of the event:  "The Orchard Media and Events Group is proud to lend our  support to this year’s Inspire  Wales Awards in recognition  of the outstanding contribution  made in Wales to the Arts,  Media and Creative Industries, a sector in which Orchard  works extensively, both in  Wales and abroad.[ed] last year’s successful, inaugural awards, and are very pleased to once again help the IWA in its aim of inspiring a better Wales."
