Sbondonics is the Welsh-language Book Club for 7–11 year-olds that is organised by the Welsh Books Council. 32,000 of the Club’s colourful sales leaflets are distributed each term to children in all parts of Wales.

In addition to a guided tour of the Wales Millennium Centre and the Senedd, the children enjoyed an author session and took part in a poetry workshop given by Gwyneth Glyn, Bardd Plant Cymru (Welsh-lanugage Poet Laureate) 2006–07, at Maestir School, St Fagans National History Museum.

'It's so difficult to pinpoint the best part of the weekend,' said Bethan Williams, the children's teacher. 'Was it meeting author Gwyn Morgan and listening to his larger-than-life stories about his holidays, or was it singing the song that the children composed with Gwyneth Glyn?'

'Naturally, staying at Gwersyll yr Urdd in Cardiff Bay gave us the opportunity to go to the cinema and ten pin bowling, but sitting in the Senedd's public gallery was an absolutely unforgettable experience,' added Bethan Williams.

The Sbondonics Book Club will be celebrating its 25th birthday next year, and over the years tens of thousands of children have bought hundreds of thousands of books through the Club.

‘The prize that Furnace Primary School won is an annual one and offers a wide variety of educational, cultural and social experiences to the children of the winning school,’ said Delyth Humphreys, Children’s Book Club Officer with the Welsh Books Council. ‘This year's programme was a particularly full and exciting one,' she added.
