The Children's Poet Laureate is a joint scheme between S4C, The Welsh Books Council, The Welsh Academy and Urdd Gobaith Cymru. Its aims are to raise the profile of poetry amongst young people and to encourage them to create and enjoy poetry. Former laureates are Ifor ap Glyn, Caryl Parry-Jones, Gwyneth Glyn, Mererid Hopwood, Tudur Dylan Jones, Ceri Wyn Jones, Menna Elfyn, Mei Mac and Myrddin ap Dafydd.

Twm Morys says:  "I’ve been visiting schools for years to talk about poetry and to write poetry with the children.

I soon realized that the most important work that we do is give children confidence.  The confidence to express themselves, and the confidence to belong. We make language a ball, and by playing with that ball, the children (sometimes without realizing it) learn vocabulary and grammar, local history, Welsh history and the ways of the world!"
